So, as a follow-up on my previous note regarding a present for my mom, some friends saw it and made some suggestions. Today I went to the local craft store and picked up a few things and this is the final gift after I finished making it. The materials I used were;

1 Glass square bowl
1 double sided photo frame
2 birds (1big 1 small)
1 strip of ribbon
1 bottle cork
2 heart shaped buttons (1 big 1 small)
glue gun

This way it's practical in that my mom can put things in the bowl yet she can also use it to display photos. I used 2 birds because my mom calls me her "birdy" XDD Good thing she didn't call me her panda or something because the store didn't have pre-made pandas and I would have had to break out the FIMO clay.

The photo frame is double sided so a second photo can be added to the other side.

With the photo frame removed. I didn't glue the frame onto the glass bowl because I wanted my mom to be able to change the photos.

And also this way she can put in vertical photos (it looks like it's tilting because I took the photos on my bed, so with the weight heavier on one side it tilted it.)
